Background

Expansion and Development is the department which drives inorganic growth within IKEA HK, with ownership of 3 functions – 'IT', 'Online sales', and 'Research and Property'.

The 'Research and Property' function primarily carries out 2 tasks:

  • Steering the organization through providing an 'outside in' view of IKEA HK – through market research and home visit activities
  • Managing the property search process for IKEA HK – through defining an expansion plan and working with our franchisors and agents

Therefore, 'Research and Property' is a key function in the strategic outlook for IKEA HK, and provides opportunities for anyone who is looking for exposure in strategic planning, market research, and properties, and ideal for any candidates looking to apply to graduate management trainee schemes in the future or looking for relevant exposure whilst studying Bachelor in Business Administration (BBA) degree

Job description

We are looking for a summer intern who is able to take ownership of a number research projects (each should take around 1 week to complete), focusing on obtaining and analyzing secondary sources and producing a report for the purposes of informing and engaging key stakeholders around the organization.

Research tasks include (but not limited to) the following:

  • Researching historical information of the site which will be occupied by the new IKEA Tsuen Wan store in HK for marketing purposes
  • Producing a comprehensive database of existing and future supply of officeresidentialand commercial space in Hong Kong, and identifying key opportunities for IKEA HK going forward
  • Mapping customer delivery data to geographical regions and identify key opportunities for IKEA HK
  • Data matching various key bits of IKEA HK research to identify key correlations and differences
  • Producing in-depth analysis on the 2016 Census, identifying key opportunities for IKEA HK

Throughout the duration of the internship, close mentorship from the Research and Property Manager will be provided.  On completion of each task, there will be opportunities to present to key management personnel and make a key difference in steering strategic outlook for IKEA HK.
